What is Muharram?
Muharram is the month in which Imam Hussain (as), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), sacrificed his life and the lives of his companions to save his grandfather's religion of Islam.
محرم کیا ہے؟
محرم وہ مہینہ ہے جس پیغمبر محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے نواسے امام حسین علیہ السلام نے اپنے نانا کے دین اسلام کو بچانے کے لئے اپنی اور اپنے ساتھیوں کی جان قربان کر دی۔

Why do we mourn in Muharram?
Yazid, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the king of Imam Hussein's time, wanted to destroy the religion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Against which Imam Hussain (as), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (sws) raised his voice and left Madinah on 28th Rajab with his family and on 2nd Muharram he reached Karbala with his family and stayed in Karbala.
On the 2nd of Muharram, Yazid's forces also began to gather in Karbala. From Muharram 7, water was cut off on Hussain and his family. By 10 Muharram, the children of Hussein's family and all the people began to suffer from thirst.
On the 10th of Muharram, on the day of Hussain, the body of Hussain's nephew Qasim (PBUH) was found trampled by horses. The arms of Hussain's 32-year-old brother Abbas (PBUH) were amputated. The spear was pierced in the chest of (pbuh) until you were pierced in the throat of Hussain's six-month-old baby The heads of these women were stripped of their heads and their children, women and Hussain had a sick son named Sajjad (PBUH),They were tortured along the way and then the caravan was imprisoned.
Hussain had a daughter whose name was Sakina (peace be upon her).She was shot, her earrings were torn off and she was tied to the bare back of a camel. Eventually this girl could not bear so many wounds and died in prison. With great difficulty with the hands in which he handcuffed and buried his sister. The caravan reached Madinah after two years of captivity.
محرم میں غم کیوں مناتے ہیں؟
پیغمبر محمد صلی اللہ علیہ و آلہ و سلم کے نواسے امام حسین علیہ السلام کے زمانے کے بادشاہ یزید پیغمبر محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے دین کو مٹانا چاہتا تھا۔
جس خلاف پیغمبر محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے نواسے امام حسین علیہ السلام نے آواز بلند کی اور 28 رجب کو اپنے اہل و عیال کے ساتھ مدینہ چھوڑا اور 2 محرم کو اپنے کنبہ کو لیکر کربلا پہونچے اور کربلا میں ہی قیام کیا۔
2 محرم کو ہی یزید کی بھی فوجیں کربلا میں جمع ہونے لگیں۔
سات محرم سے حسین اور ان کے کنبہ پر پانی بند کر دیا گیا۔
10 محرم تک حسین کے کنبہ کے بچہ اور سبھی لوگ پیاس سے تڑپنے لگے۔
دس محرم ہی کو حسین کے دن ہی حسین کے بھتیجے قاسم(علیہ السلام ) کا لاشہ گھوڑوں کی سموں سے پامال کو ریا گیا ،حسین کے بتیس سال کے بھائی عباس (علیہ السلام) کے بازو کاٹ دئے گئے،حسین کے جوان بیٹے علی اکبر (علیہ السلام ) کے سینے میں نیزہ مارا گیا یہاں تک کہ حسین کے چھ مہینے کے بچے کے گلے میں تیرا مارا گیا اور اس طرح حسین اور ان کے بہتر(72) ساتھیوں کو پیاسہ شہید کر دیا گیا اور ان کے خیام کو جلایا گیا ،ان عورتوں کے سر سے ردائیں چھین لی گئیں اور ان کے بچوں،عورتوں اور حسین کا ایک بیمار بیٹا تھا جس کا نام سجاد (علیہ السلام ) تھا ان سب کو قید کر لیا گیا اور میلوں کا صفر پیدل طے کرایا گیا ، راستے بھر ان کو طرح طرح کی اذیتیں دی گئیں پھر اس قافلے کو زندان میں قید کر لیا گیا ۔
حسین ایک بیٹی تھی جس کا نام سکیںہ (سلام اللہ علیہا) تھا اس کو تمانچے مارے گئے ،کانوں کی بالیاں نوچ لی گئیں اور اونٹ کی ننگی پشت پہ باندھا گیا بالآخر یہ بچی اتنے زخم برداشت نہ کر سکی اور زندان میں ہی مر گئی بھائی نے بڑی ہی مشقتوں سے ان ہاتھوں سے جن میں ہتھکڑیاں اپنی بہن کو دفن کیا۔
یہ لٹا ہوا قافلہ دو سال کی اسیری کے بعد مدینہ پہونچا۔

How to celebrate grief in Muharram:
Mourning is held in Muharram to commemorate the oppression of the people of Karbala. Meetings are held, processions are held, condolences are offered, mourning is performed and thus the oppressed Imam is paid.
محرم میں غم کس طرح مناتے ہیں:
کربلا والوں کے اوپر ہوئے ظلم کی ہی یاد میں محرم میں سوگ منایا جاتا ہے مجلسیں ہوتی ہیں،جلوس نکالے جاتے ہیں،تعزیہ داری کی جاتی ہے،ماتم کیا جاتا ہے اور اس طرح سے مظلوم امام پرسہ دیا جاتا ہے ۔
